First off, a word about these wonderful home owners. While they have been the owners of the home, they have restored its interior to its former glory of a 1910’s bungalow home. Located in Denver, CO just east of the DU campus off of University and Evans, this neighborhood is a patchwork of beautiful old and contemporary new homes. No two houses are ever the same, and its charm is evident when you drive through this area. This residence has been renovated to restore the rich oak wood floors, cornice doorway detailing, lovely wood wall paneling with its turn of the century details, warm rich colors and overall inviting interior. The kitchen was the last area of the home requiring major renovation. These home owners didn’t shy away at the task. The tackled most of this renovation themselves! The did have some assistance with a few things along the way, but invested much of their own sweat blood and tears along the way.
The kitchen was a perfect 12′ x 12′ space, which was a bit challenging for the new design layout we wanted to do, but we created a floor plan that not only maximized the space they had, but gave them almost three times the storage and a lot more counter top space. We added an island for more base storage and counter top space, relocated the gas stove to the back wall to open up the space and moved the refrigerator by the prep and cooking areas to make the space flow a lot better. Adding two large pantry cabinets and a communication center also made this space a lot more functional for every day living.
The addition of a new lighting plan made a world of difference in this space and made it light and bright, to show off the unique details of this lovely kitchen. New cream cabinets, sleek modern pulls, stainless steel appliances, stunning slab granite counter tops and a gorgeous glass mosaic back splash made this space feel both fitted for the home and its age, but a modern space where any family would enjoy cooking and entertaining in.
